Mechanical Design Engineer

Job description

Role & responsibilities

1. Mechanical System Design

• Design mechanical systems for water treatment processes, including filtration, chemical dosing, sedimentation, and distribution.
• Develop equipment layouts, P&IDs, general arrangement drawings, and detailed design documentation.
• Ensure mechanical designs align with process requirements, plant layout, and client specifications.

2. Piping Design

• Design and route process piping systems, including pipe sizing, pressure drop analysis, and support structures.
• Prepare isometric drawings and bill of materials (BOM).
• Ensure piping design complies with industry standards such as ASME, AWWA, and IS codes.

3. Rotary and Mechanical Equipment Integration

• Select and specify pumps, blowers, compressors, mixers, and other rotating equipment.
• Review equipment datasheets and vendor submittals for compliance with technical requirements.
• Ensure proper installation orientation, alignment, and foundation design for mechanical equipment.

4. Hydraulic Design

• Perform hydraulic calculations to determine flow rates, pipe sizes, pump capacities, and head losses.
• Design systems for both gravity and pressurized flows.
• Support hydraulic modeling efforts if required.

5. Fabrication and Installation Support

• Review fabrication drawings and ensure the quality of manufactured components.
• Provide site support during equipment installation, piping erection, and alignment.
• Coordinate with contractors and vendors during mechanical works execution.

6. Project Coordination

• Collaborate with civil, structural, electrical, and instrumentation teams for seamless integration of mechanical systems.
• Participate in project planning, scheduling, and coordination meetings.
• Support procurement through preparation of technical specifications and evaluation of vendor offers.
